Options when you need them
Quality
Lower the quality for smaller JPG and WEBP files. 85 is a good balance for photos.
Maximum size
Shrink large photos to 3840, 1920, 1280 px or smaller on the longest side.
Metadata removed
Converted images don't carry EXIF data such as camera details or GPS location.
Will converting reduce the quality of my images?
JPG and WEBP use lossy compression, so a little detail is removed. At the default quality of 85 the difference is hard to see. PNG, TIFF and BMP are lossless and keep every pixel.
What happens to transparent backgrounds?
PNG, WEBP, GIF, ICO and TIFF keep transparency. JPG, BMP and PDF can't store it, so transparent areas are filled with white or with the background color you pick under Options.
Are EXIF data and location kept?
No. The converted image doesn't include EXIF data such as the camera model, date or GPS position. The orientation is applied to the pixels, so photos stay upright.
How do I make a favicon?
Convert a square PNG or SVG to ICO. The icon file includes sizes from 16 to 256 pixels, up to the size of your image, so it looks sharp in tabs, bookmarks and on Windows.
