Good to know
PNG files are larger
PNG keeps every pixel, so a PNG of a photo is often several times the size of the JPG.
No quality is added back
Converting stops further loss, but detail that the JPG already removed can't be restored.
Resize while you convert
Use Maximum size in Options to make large photos smaller, which also keeps the PNG size down.

PNG is lossless, so it never adds compression artifacts. A PNG made from a JPG looks exactly like that JPG, not better.
Can I make the background transparent?
Converting doesn't remove backgrounds. The PNG will have the same solid background as your JPG.
Why is my PNG so much bigger?
Lossless compression can't throw away detail the way JPG does. Use Maximum size in Options if you need a smaller file.
Can I convert JPEG and JFIF files too?
Yes. JPG, JPEG, JFIF and JPE are names for the same format and convert the same way.
